{jMovie} “Yubi” 2006: Disturbing Yuri Movie!

Synopsis:

Yubi (“Finger”) is based upon the novel of the same name, written by Matsumoto Seichou. The story centers around Fukue Yumiko (played by Goto Maki), a stage actress who strives for fame at all costs. In order to fulfill her ambitions, she ends up in a lesbian love triangle with the top member of her theatrical troupe, Kitaoka Miho (Takaoka Saki) and Tsuneko (Manda Hisako), the wife of a rich executive. However, industrious variety show reporter Suzuki Kaori (Hoshino Mari), reporting on serial killings, stumbles upon the secrets of Fukue’s past.

First of all, the title of the movie translated into English is Finger. That is just as disturbing a title as the entire movie.  I’m not delving straight into the details of the movie. To sum it up in a nutshell, it’s a drama film about two young women sleeping their way up the ladder of their careers. I’d say the best part was the beginning. Where the two women are having a friendly exchange and Fumiko eats ramen. mmMmm Ramen…

{jMovie} “Natural Woman” by Seiichi Nomura: A Grave Lady Love Drama

Judging from the pace of the trailer below, Natural Woman is a melancholy and complicated weave of relationships between three women. Release date for the DVD via Amazon Japan is August 27th 2010. This is normally not my cup of tea as I much prefer light-hearted romantic lady love comedies that leave me both feeling “Aww that was cute!” or I actually learned something.

What has caught my attention is the lead is also a photographer! (and maybe the seductive movie poster…) But COME ON! Why does almost every movie poster within the girl on girl genre HAVE to be two women in a FROZEN CHU or clad in her birthday suit?! I don’t want to watch JUST the sex! I want a fantastic storyline dammit or at least a funny one! Let’s play a little game shall we and see if you can recognize the movies below based on the posters. (answers at the end of this post)

{jMovie} Maria-sama ga Miteru Live Action! Cuhrazy!

Ohohohoho! Maria-sama ga Miteru is being adapted into Live Action! Scheduled release is June 25th. When I hear the term “live action” associated with “Maria-sama ga Miteru”, I think of an action film involving a bunch of yuri catholic school girls guns blazing any man that comes within 10 ft of Sachiko. “SO WRONG!” and maybe “What the @%#@!” is what probably comes to other people’s mind. There are mixed feelings and criticisms about this and it’s shaking up the yuri hemisphere! My thoughts are you will either love it or hate it. Heck, I just want to watch it for the yuri and it’s a potential landmine of yuri squealing and kyaaaas. I mean look at the picture to your left! Sachiko is adjusting Yumi’s tie! Oh and I’m looking forward to the OST! I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a total fluke. How many other yuri live actions are out there anyway? It has to be better than Cutie Honey Live and Mendol Ikemen Idol right?! ::crosses fingers::
